Blast from the Recent Past

I thought I'd share this collage of images from a Know Mag puzzle spread I wrote and illustrated last year. I was recently asked for a client to put together a single image that showed multiple versions of the same characters, so I threw this together and thought it didn't turn out too poorly.

A version of this is available as a print over at my Etsy store dontcha know! And speaking of Etsy - watch this space for news of a holiday sale very soon!

Sunday Show Success!

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by the show in Victoria yesterday to peruse and buy my new prints, the new "How Things Work" books and all my doodles in general. We had a lot of fun and met a lot of great folks!

It was fun seeing the new cloth banner up, and getting the positive reaction to the new work displayed around us.

My work might be on newsstands and in bookstores across North America, and on computers around the world, but when it comes right down to it's so much better to get instant feedback from someone face to face.

For everyone who couldn't make it to the show a reminder that all my prints and a few selected pieces of original art (more to come soon) are available at my brand-new Etsy store. And look for future announcements on upcoming appearances. There's talk of an upcoming Con that I might be guesting at. See you soon!

Yes... after years of thinking about it I've timed it perfectly and so, in conjunction with the imminent collapse of the worldwide economy, I'm happy to announce the official GRAND OPENING of the GLEN MULLALY ORIGINAL ART PRINTS and ILLUSTRATION ART store on Etsy!

Here's a small sample of the 40 pieces (including two sizes for each print and some original art) available to choose from for the launch. Stop by and say "hi", but be forewarned... I'll be having the staff check any suspiciously bulging backpacks or hand bags on the way out!

"Junior Inventors" 5" x7" digital print - archival inks on museum quality Canson Montval Aquarelle textured heavy paper. Also available as a 8"x 10" print.

Upcoming Show!

Hey, hey, hey! I'm pleased to announce that yours truly will be a "Special Guest", at the upcoming Victoria's Ultimate Hobby and Toy Fair in sunny Victoria B.C. If you've never been to the show it's an amazing event with an arena full of vintage and new collectable toys, comic books, vintage books and magazines, displays and demonstrations from numerous clubs and groups, a charity carnival, costume contests, tons of door prizes and a heck of a lot more (did I just copy the text from the poster? Pretty much!)

Anyway - it's a great time and is becoming more and more like a comic-con with all the displays and more artists in attendance. This time I've been invited to show and sell my new prints (more info on that coming up - I promise!), original art, to sign copies of books and magazines I've illustrated (and pretty much anything else anyone wants me to sign!) and just say "HI!" (all caps and exclamation point guaranteed!). I'll be flanked in "Artists Alley" by  the incredibly talented Dapper Dan and Canadian comic book legend and pal Ken Steacy.

So if you are in the area I highly recommend stopping by for an hour or two (you need that much just to see everything). And don't forget to stop by and say "howdy"!

We had 17 entries to our Fan-Choice Art Print Giveaway Contest Thingy!TM, and out of the the 13 eligible entrants (the others were in some way affiliated to this here blog), a name was drawn randomly from the official prize draw fez with great (okay... moderate) fanfare. And that name you ask?

Yay Brad! I'll be contacting you shortly (or you can contact me) for your mailing address and print choice, and very soon indeed the first official Glen Mullaly print will be hot off the press / printer / mimeograph machine thing and winging it's way across the vast distances of time and space to you!

But how, you ask, did my print votes stack up against other folk's choices in the second part of this exercise? With the able assistance of the accounting firm of Mullaly, Boo & Mullaly, and lead tabulator-chartmaker Joanne we have our results...

I was quite surprised with how the voting turned out for a few of the illustrations (Super Teacher had previously been requested as a print, and I thought that Arcade would have been near the top), but now that the peanut gallery has had your say it helps me decide the 6 or 8 prints that I'll make available in the first batch. Of course now the hard work of painting and stocking the online print store will begin in earnest (Earnest, Cayman Islands that is. The local business taxes are less there). Look for our big grand opening announcement here in the next few weeks - and thanks again to everyone for taking the time to vote!

Contest Ends - Entrants Await with Baited Breath!

First off... I'd recommend a mint. Secondly - the votes are being tallied, and the winner will be announced from the eligible entries later today. Thanks to everyone who entered - all 17 of you!

More Free Stuff!

Yes, you heard correctly true believers... hot on the heels of my last contest (in which a long delay was caused due to my announcing the festivities before I had the prizes in my ink-stained hands!), I'm happy (and more prepared) to announce's second prize giveaway extravaganza...

The Fan-Choice Art Print Giveaway Contest Thingy!

Yep. As a super-secret sneak preview of my upcoming art print announcement I'm asking YOU the consumer to help choose the prints that will be made available later this month. All you have to do is look ( or click for larger version) at the images below - numbered for easy contest identification... the numbers will not be on the final prints, and let me know in a comment the five (5) illustrations you would be most likely to purchase as prints. "Prints", you ask? You heard right... shortly after the close of this here contest-a-rama will be officially launching the first series of 8 high-quality 8.5" x 11" and 5" x 7" prints (along with original art and, in the near future, some other merchandise) through our new on-line store.

More info on that at the launch - but for now all you have to do to enter is... 1: Look, 2: Like, 3: Comment!

The prize? One 8.5" x 11" print of your choice (on Canson acid-free, museum grade heavy paper, shipped flat to anywhere in the world) from the winning designs. Contest ends September 15th.

Oh, and a few last things... Be sure to leave your name if you're not logged in... Images 10a, b, c and d are intended to go together (and will be sold at a discounted set price) so the four images numbered "10" count as only one choice, not four... Although I've tried to anticipate the most popular candidates from my portfolio, if you really like one of my illustrations not listed below (see my gallery at for other illustrations) feel free to include one or two of those in your 5 choices!

Obligatory Microscopic Fine Print Dept: One comment (with up to 5 choices) per entrant. Not all illustrations on my website gallery are available as possible choices for prints because of copyright or image quality issues. Although voting is encouraged, family of, Licensing, or Heavy Manufacturing Concern LLC not eligible for the giveaway prize (hey - if you really want one of the prints there's always Christmas!).

YIKES 2: Electric Boogaloo!

The current issue of teen embarrassment magazine Yikes! is on the stands now featuring three illustrations by yers trooly. No farting images this time (drawn by me that is!), but I got to doodle future prime minister of Canada The Right Honorable Justiny Drewellyn Bieber III in an embarrassing moment.

On a related (and completely not self-promoting money-grabbing way) note, the original art for this illustration along with the issue it's printed in is up for sale on eBay right now. Wouldn't it look nice framed on your way next to your Vanilla Ice macaroni portrait and your prized Shaun Cassidy String-Art project from 1978?!

Monday, August 1, 2011!

Well... it took a year, but I finally got my copies of the the June/July 2010 issue of fab Japanese funk / jazz / latin / whatever music magazine Wax Poetic Japan. They did a piece on 45 adapters and licensed one of my photos for the article. This back issue available here.

I sold off a large number of my adapters to a Smithsonian related endeavor that teaches about the history of design of everyday objects. But I've since started rebuilding the collection.

Thanks to everyone who entered. And waited... and waited... for this contest to end. But the books finally arrived yesterday, and a neutral third party observer (my wife) pulled Kate's name out of all the entrants from out of a hermetically sealed fez this evening.

So one copy of Joey Greene's Amazing Pet Cures (illustrated by yours truly) will be speeding it's way to you shortly!

And all you who didn't win can still pick up the book at your local bookstore (in North America at least) or via

Thanks again!

Contest Winner Announced Today!

Last chance to enter the long-delayed book giveaway contest! If you haven't entered add your name to the post below or here. Winner announced later today!

It's For the Birds!

It looks like the fine folks at Know Mag have done it again! The May 2010 issue of KNOW magazine (Backyard Birds) just won an Association of Educational Publishers award for Best Series (K-5). I was happy to have contributed my regular 2 page "Know Fun" puzzle feature for that very issue.

It was with Know's sister mag Yes that I won my AEP award for best cover a few years back as well. Congrats, Know!

Here's part of a recent boffo job I did for a swell advertising client. When I was growing up there was nothing young Glen wanted more than to be a comic book artist when he grew up. Even though I eventually did some work on the edge of mainstream comics it's fun to get to do this comic-style stuff now and then. There's a male counterpart to this character and a super-villain in the works as well.

Contest Update

Thanks to everyone who has entered the Joey Greene Amazing Pet Cures Contest! A quick update to let you know that my copies of the book have been delayed, so I'm keeping the contest open until June 14th. If you haven't already entered for a chance to win this fun new book illustrated by yours truly then do so now by leaving a comment below.

Thank again , and good luck!

Saturday, April 30, 2011

Joey Green's Amazing Pets Cures hit the stores across North America this week with 44 boffo black & white illustrations from yours truly, Mama Mullaly's little bundle of doodlin' joy!

The publisher blurbs the book thusly: "From the man who knows how to fertilize houseplants with Jell-O and give someone a dry shampoo with Quaker Oats comes the first book of pet care tips that tackles everyday pet illnesses, quirky behaviors, and animal smells and stains by tapping into the power of brand-name products."

But I'll tempt your palette with a patented two-part method. Part 1: By showing you some of the aforementioned illustriously illuminative illustrations. It was a lot of fun getting to work in black and white again for these small spot pieces. The majority of the work that I did for the first fifteen years of my career was in B&W, but it's been a long time since I've last done a job without colour.

And Part 2? My first contest with an actual prize! Yes indeedy folks, I will mail a copy of this swell (but goofy) book (retail value $17.99 U.S. /$19.99 Can) to the winning entrant who leaves a comment on this post before date of contest close (winning name to be randomly drawn from a fez at the stroke of 2:36pm PST on the day that I get my copies from the fine folks at Rodale.)

This contest is open to all readers of this blog (anywhere that I can ship to!), pet owners or not. Employees of Glen Mullaly Worldwide Heavy Industries Consolidated Limited Incorporated PTY LLC PDF BFF and their families are eligible to enter as well, but probably wouldn't want to 'cause they see enough of my goofy scribblings anyway and when's that guy gonna get a real job anyway hey didn't he borrow my hedge clippers last summer and not return them that lousy ingrate!

So leave a comment to enter, and check back over the next couple of weeks for the announcement of the winner. Good Luck!
